A reduced, transportable version of the Socomec electrical cabinets for trade-show presentations: multi-part FDM printing in PLA, scaling of the files and smart splitting of the bulky elements, with a variety of colours for legibility. The brief - A faithful and legible reproduction of an electrical cabinet

Socomec entrusted us with printing the various parts of an electrical cabinet model, supplied in digital format. The goal was to create a scaled-down version, visually clear, following a precise colour code and intended for commercial presentation.

  • The 3D file supplied was usable, but required rescaling to suit our printing process.
  • The specific requirements included: strong visual legibility through faithful colour matching

The model had to let Socomec visually present its electrical cabinets at trade shows or client meetings, without moving the actual equipment. 3D printing stood out as the ideal solution:

Our goal - Delivering a complex, modular project

This project involved several major technical challenges:

  • The model featured large parts, requiring smart splitting to print them in several pieces.
  • The high number of different parts made quantity management complex, with particular care given to consistent scaling across the whole assembly.
  • It was also essential to guarantee the smooth assembly of every part once printed.

Scaling, splitting and visual validations

  • The first step was to rescale all the supplied files while keeping overall consistency between the different parts. Elements too large for our build volumes were split into several sections, following a logic of simple assembly on delivery. PLA was chosen for the whole project: rigid enough for a model
  • Available in several distinct colours, making the components easier to identify

  • FDM technology was selected for this project, because it offered: a good value-for-money ratio suited to a model

A demanding and instructive project

Delivery was handled with great care, given the number and fragility of the parts:

  • The parts were carefully packaged, with individual bags for the smallest components to prevent any loss or mix-up.
  • The client was pleased with the project follow-up, as well as with Osmoz 3D's responsiveness to the adjustments needed during production.
