Client's need

1

The request

Once the project was approved, the client wanted to receive the decorations by early November at the latest, in order to:

  • carry out the installation before the event planned for the shop's 40th anniversary,
  • post on social media with prepared visuals,
  • keep some leeway for fitting and any adjustments.

2

The need

This manufacturing phase had to meet, point by point, the specification defined in phase 1, as set out in the project sheet validated with the client. The expected elements had to:

  • respect the planned dimensions, materials and fixing systems,
  • deliver a visual result faithful to the original AI render,
  • be robust, easy to handle and designed for a drill-free installation.

Our objective

For this second collaboration with Carpe Diem, our objective was twofold:

  • to provide a level of service as high as during the Advent calendar project, which had been particularly appreciated,
  • to go further, by strengthening our rigour, our high standards on the finish, and our ability to deliver on time a complex object combining wood, 3D printing, paint, assembly and logistics.
Our objective

Our response

1

Ordering and assembling the wooden structure

The first step was to order made-to-measure cut wood to build the main structure. This choice allowed us:

  • to obtain precise dimensions matching the validated 3D model,
  • to guarantee good overall stability, particularly for the opening system.

3D printing and assembling the elements

Alongside the wooden structure, we launched the printing of the decorative and technical 3D parts:

  • the red bows acting as decorative ribbons,
  • the spacer shims to ensure a good fit against the shopfront,
  • the fixing brackets designed to measure for secure, drill-free mounting.

Paint, varnish and finishing

Once the wooden structure was assembled and the decorative elements fitted, we began a demanding finishing phase, in several stages:

  • Applying 3 coats of paint, with a spray gun, for a uniform, covering finish.
  • Applying 3 coats of varnish, also with a spray gun, to protect the surfaces from the weather and ensure they hold up well over time.
  • Fitting the hinges and the opening system on the panels.
  • Manual touch-ups (localised sanding, paint/varnish retouching, visual adjustments) to finalise the whole with care.

Bespoke packaging

To keep the decorations safe during transport, we designed fully bespoke packaging:

  • Ordering wooden panels to build a transport crate suited to the specific dimensions of the modules.
  • Adding packing paper to stabilise each element inside.
  • Using tissue paper to protect the painted and varnished surfaces from rubbing.
