Client's need

The request

An amateur musician came to us wanting to design a complete bespoke pedalboard that was at once functional, portable and attractive. This wasn't simply a stand, but the entire enclosure housing his effects pedals, accessories and connection system. The client provided his pedals and gave us free rein on the design, with one main instruction: be creative while staying practical. The project's goals:

  • hold all his pedals, cables, accessories and reference sheets,
  • hide every connection for a clean, coherent look,
  • integrate a centralised activation system,
  • provide a button-raising system to make foot operation easier,
  • ensure protection against dust.

The need

The client wanted a compact, self-contained object able to meet several uses:

  • regular use at home,
  • easy transport when travelling,
  • reliable protection against dust,
  • and quick handling during music sessions.

Our objective

The main goal was to design a bespoke pedalboard, complete and ready to use, incorporating the technical constraints, the aesthetic expectations and the musician's practical needs. We brought several skills to bear:

  • Bespoke design of the overall structure, the internal supports and the wedging elements,
  • Laser cutting of wooden panels with our Xtool for a clean, modular and sturdy result,
  • Electronic integration of the pedals' overall power system,
  • 3D-printed button raisers for more comfortable foot operation.

Designing the structure

We began by fully modelling the enclosure, taking into account:

  • the number and shape of the pedals to fit,
  • the compartments needed for cables, plugs and accessories,
  • and the target volume, to guarantee a controlled footprint.

3D printing the functional parts

3D printing was called on to add key functions to the pedalboard, with bespoke parts designed to:

  • ease daily use,
  • improve ergonomics,
  • and optimise the internal layout.

Integrating the electronic system

To simplify daily use, we integrated a centralised power system, allowing all the pedals to be powered through a single side switch. Work carried out:

  • Fitting a shared internal power supply,
  • Integrating a discreet switch on the side of the pedalboard,
  • Arranging invisible wiring routed within the walls,
  • Checking compatibility with each pedal's specific power supply.

Finishing and visual result

Particular attention was paid to the finishing to make the pedalboard an object that is both functional and attractive. Finishing work carried out:

  • Sanding the wooden panels after cutting,
  • Clean and discreet assembly of the structural elements,
  • Choosing coherent colours: raw wood, deep black, and a few contrasting touches to highlight the ergonomics,
  • Checking the visual alignment between the pedals, the raisers and the enclosure.

Conclusion

A stage instrument, built for the road

Integrated electronics, hidden wiring, a portable format: 3D printing and laser cutting turn a musician's need into a finished object, robust and ready for the stage.
